The City of Goražde is the administrative and cultural center of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton, located on the banks of the Drina River in the center of its upper course. It is located on the eastern slopes of the Jahorina mountain, at an altitude of 345m and on an area of 248.8 km2. The city is surrounded by forest-covered hills. Goražde is located on an important road to Primorje, Serbia, and Montenegro, and has a good connection with Sarajevo and other regions.
Goražde was mentioned as a trading settlement in 1379 when it traded with Dubrovnik. The city gained more importance in 1958, when the Goražda-Tjentište-Čemerno-Gacko-Dubrovnik road was built. The Drina River runs through the heart of the Bosnian mountains, which in Goražde created the largest valley in the mountain massif that stretches from Podgorica in the south and Sarajevo in the west. The Drina River offers a variety of opportunities for rest, recreation and adrenaline activities. Every weekend on the beaches of the Drina river there are many visitors that appreciate the nature and good music. Goražde is visited especially in the summer season, for the traditional Friendship Festival and the Drina Regatta. Visitors can enjoy numerous beaches, peacefully enjoy the nature and have a picnic on various spots near the river, but also spend the time in various outdoor activities such as rafting, kayaking, fishing, cycling and hiking. Goražde is connected with neighbouring municipalities and the network of marked bike routes in the Upper Drina region by the bike path that goes mostly along the old narrow-gauge railway “Ćiro”. City of Goražde Locations Picnic areas on Drina river banks – Every weekend on the beaches of the Drina river as well as near Goražde there are many visitors that appreciate the nature. Most attractive picnic locations are the Zelena, Gubavica viewpoint and Sadba picnic area. Medieval necropolis Goršić polje – In the shade of an age-old forest, about 15 kilometers west of Goražde, there is one of the largest medieval necropolises (stećci). This site is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Upper Drina bicycle routes – Goražde area is connected with other Upper Drina municipalities and a wider region by a network of established and marked cycling routes and detours. The cycling route currently being established connects Foča-Ustikolina-Goražde-Novo Goražde municipalities mostly along the route of the old narrow-gauge railway „Ćiro“. Bikes, Kayaks, fisherman in city center – Visitors are offered to enjoy numerous outdoor activities such as rafting, kayaking, fishing, cycling and hiking in Goražde and the nearby area.
