Center of Trnovo lies at an altitude of 844 meters, while the villages on the slopes of the surrounding mountains lie at an average altitude of 1,000 meters. Mountains of unique beauty reach height over 2000 meters.The municipality is characterized by a continental climate that with increasing altitude becomes the sharp mountain climate of alpine type.This area is characterized as an ecologically clean area, which is reflected in the purity of water and air, and the preservation of natural characteristics of the land.

 Trnovo is also characterized by a rich natural heritage which is located mostly in the mountains: Bjelašnica, Treskavica and Visočica and in Canyon of Rakitnica. There are many natural springs and mountain streams of unique beauty that enrich many areas of the municipality. This area is also interesting because of caves, mostly locally known and completely unexplored. Nature parks of mountains are at the foot overgrown by forests and ground flora that requires full protection of certain plant and animal species and ecosystems. In today conditions there are large number of endangered species of plants, animals, fungi, and the entire plant communities and ecosystems. Trnovo is exceptionally abundant with the clean, fresh water springs, rivers and streams, mountain glacial lakes, caves, nature parks overgrown by forests and ground flora. The area is perfect for a variety of outdoor activities and sports, including snow sports, hiking, paragliding, biking etc.
Traces of life in the area of Valley of Trnovo date back to the Prehistoric Age as today legally protected monuments testify. As one of rare places, Trnovo can be proud of possessing many sights and memorials, including prehistoric archaeological sites, medieval fortifications and necropolis, traditional mountain villages etc.

The Javorov do picnic park offers natural and landscape values ​​of the mountain of Bjelašnica at an altitude of 1250 m to 1350 m, with a multitude of opportunities to enjoy many different hiking and sports activities.
Mountain Visočica offers many hiking, biking and trailing opportunities in a scenic landscape, as well as sites of medieval tombstones.
Old watermills at the Sedrenik spring, that fascinates all lovers of untouched nature, are located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Umoljani, mountain Bjelašnica.
Babin do – Olympic Center Bjelašnica – is one of the largest ski resorts in the vicinity of Sarajevo. It is located on the mountain Bjelašnica, about 30 kilometers from the city center. At Babin do visitors have a wide accomodation, gastro and service offer, as well as a range od outdoor sports and activities including skiing for professionals and beginners, nightskiing, hiking, paragliding etc.
The “Studeni potok” (Studeni stream) is located in the vicinity of the village of Umoljani, Bjelašnica. It is an oasis of peace and nature which was created, as legend says, when the dragon tried to swallow the village and its inhabitants. According to legend, the dragon headed towards Umoljani across the valley hidden among the hills. With its body, the dragon left a winding trail in the green valley, which today is filled with crystal clear water.
Peak Puzim soars to a towering height of 1776 meters, making it one of the most prominent peaks in the Visočica mountain range. What sets Puzim apart is its distinct, needle-like summits and rock spires that draw the gaze of adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Rakitnica River Canyon cuts deeply between Bjelašnica and Visočica mountains, forming a morphological phenomenon and an idyllic wonder of wild nature, with a series of rapids, waterfalls, and calm pools. Rakitnica Canyon is the longest (over 20 km) and deepest (800-1000m) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Spring of the River Željeznica, Village Godinja, is located at the foot of the Treskavica in the area of the Godinjska cave. The river originates from two streams, Godinjski and Hrasnički.
Umoljani Village is one of the most beautiful villages of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A mysterious village watched over by a legendary dragon, known for the water mills and the Studeni Potok, has already become a very famous destination for all nature lovers.
