The Upper Drina sports and recreational path is characterized by beautiful urban and rural landscapes along the Drina River, as well as many natural, cultural and historical landmarks and sites, partly presented in this web presentation. The specific location of the route provides access to the most important cycling routes in this part of Europe, such as the Trans Dinarica, as well as access to numerous local trails.

Located in eastern BiH in the Drina River basin, the Upper Drina region is centered on the municipalities of Foča (RS) and Goražde (FBiH). This region is well-known for its stunning natural beauty and tourism potential. The Upper Drina Regional Initiative (UDRI) has been spearheaded by Goražde and Foča as a cross-entity and cross-municipality initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation in the Upper Drina region. Since 2021, the UDRI has included 11 municipalities, seven in the RS (Čajniče, Foča, Novo Goražde, Pale, Rudo, Trnovo RS and Višegrad), and four in the FBiH (Foča-Ustikolina, Goražde, Pale-Prača and Trnovo FBiH), which have agreed to cooperate on thematic areas including economic development, tourism, waste management, water supply networks, renewable energy, environmental protection, civil protection cooperation, cultural and sports activities and exchanging experiences in various sectors.

The Upper Drina region is characterized by a rich and diverse natural environment, which is very suitable for the development of various types of tourism, especially river, mountain, hunting and fishing, religious and rural tourism. The region has also a developed and well-marked network of bike routes. The region is also connected to two major bike routes in the Balkan peninsula, the Via Dinarica and the Trans Dinarica. Another bike path is being developed to connect municipalities Foča, Foča-Ustikolina, Goražde and Novo Goražde, mostly along the old narrow-gauge railway “Ćiro” and on the banks of the river Drina.
